Happy endings and heartfelt reunions are what we strive for.
Last year, a lovely Russian Blue kitty was brought to us by a distraught young man. To find employment he had to move south and couldn’t keep his cat. At the town shelter he learned his cat’s life was hardly guaranteed, and was referred to us.
Safe Haven cannot take cats unless arrangements are made in advance. Our small building is usually full, and it takes time to find an available foster home, or hope adoptions will allow us more room.
But this young man stood in front of us, his cat in his arms, crying.
We brought her into our program and named her Tallulah. She was a delight, made friends with everyone. Especially Macy, a young black cat who entertained us all by learning to open the cat-treat canister with her paws. The two became inseparable.
Months later, the young man was able to return home to Maine. A chance meeting between his girlfriend and a Safe Haven volunteer led to the topic of Tallulah. The girlfriend was ecstatic to discover Tallulah was still with us.
“Can we adopt her back?”
She and her boyfriend wanted to adopt Tallulah back. We explained that she was now tightly bonded with Macy, and we hated to separate them. The couple was so happy that Tallulah had found a friend who kept her happy all those months, they decided to adopt them both.
Recently Tallulah and Macy were delivered to their old friends/new home. Outside, waiting for their arrival, was this young man — tears again in his eyes as he greeted his purring baby back into his life.
This happy reunion is what rescue groups like ours strive for!
Another amazing reunion: “That’s my cat!”
A stray Maine Coon spent the winter living under the porch of a kind woman in Kennebunk. Through ice and snow, Betsy provided shelter and food.
Eventually, the cat allowed the woman to get close and befriend her. She was brought to Safe Haven and taken to the vet.
One of the medical staff gasped when she spotted the kitty. It was Macey, her own kitty, lost since last October when she moved!
Now happily reunited, this Maine Coon can settle back in with her family.
Everyone can give thanks to Betsy for helping their kitty get through the winter.
Sailor wins “Best Hugger” Award
When you hold Sailor, he wraps his white paws around your neck, rubs his face against yours, and purrs. No wonder we’re all in love with him.
Sailor gets along great with other kitties, loves to watch birdies, and is playful and sweet. This handsome, young, all-white lover boy will make a wonderful addition to your family.
Visit our Adoption Center and get some hugs of your own — if you can tear him out of our arms.
The kitties thank you!
