We’re heartbroken to learn that a tiny kitten named Charlotte died this week.
The last survivor of a litter of three, we’d hoped that Charlotte would survive. Her mother Fern certainly gave her lots of TLC, but all three kittens’ health was too badly compromised by their previous environment.
Mama Fern was a barn cat and tested positive for Feline Leukemia. Life at the farm was tough for her. She received inadequate nutrition, was covered with cow manure, and badly matted.
One of her kittens had already died before we could rescue the family. The second kitten died soon after, and little Charlotte actually improved before suddenly passing away.
Where’s my baby?
Fern, not understanding what had happened, searched everywhere for her last kitten – a heartbreaking experience for her foster mom to witness. It’s heartbreaking to see how these animals suffer, emotionally and physically. We feel helpless in situations like this. Despite all the love and care we give them, some rescues have been victims of such neglect they’re simply too ill to survive.
Fern, who’s very friendly and affectionate, is now resting in foster care, and receiving extra love and comfort. A beautiful and sweet Maine Coon mix with classic markings, there’s a good chance she’ll have a long life and not die early due to Feline Leukemia. While we have lost some kitties to leukemia, many who tested positive lived full and healthy lives for over seven years.
We pray for Fern’s good health, and for someone to read her story and give her a loving home. he needs to be an “only cat.”
Adoptions of Feline Leukemia cats are considered assisted adoptions, which means the usual adoption fee is waived. We even pay her vet visits for life. We don’t want any feline leukemia kitties to miss out on the happiness of being loved as a family member.
Fern has already gone thru hell. Now let’s help her find her own piece of heaven. I’m sure you’ll agree she’s overdue!
The kitties thank you!
