Spring is early and so is kitten season.
In addition, we’ve been swamped with surrenders from a local hoarder situation. A second batch of kitties arrived sick, and the foster home is overwhelmed with work and worry. Because these kitties were last to leave, they were even more stressed.
We were saddened to see the person surrender them in a lobster trap in the back of a pickup on a cold, rainy night. It was covered, but cats are not used to traveling that way. When they arrived they were shaking from hear and hunger.
The good news: That was the last night they will ever experience fear or discomfort. Now they are with Safe Haven and the rest of their lives will be one of comfort and love.
Unfortunately, the hoarder situation has caused serious financial strain and volunteer shortages. We need your support financially, with donations of food and litter, additional foster homes, and cleaning our adoption center. Interested? Please call 646-1611. Thanks!
A special thank-you
… to Marilyn and Kelly, two volunteers who handled the care and feeding of the numerous hoarder kitties. This week was especially difficult because the last nine kitties were very sick and needed a lot of care and clean-up, leading to many sleepless nights for these tireless volunteers.
Another special thank-you to Peggi who is fostering some of the hoarder kitties, and to all the volunteers who put in extra miles and efforts. Marilyn, sounding relieved and less exhausted, reports that all kitties are looking healthy and finally eating.
The kitties thank you!
