No Kill Safe Haven, York County, Maine

Oreo's problem

Oreo is extremely shy. You might even say he's scared of his own shadow. That's why he was surrendered to Safe Haven. He was frightened of the kids, the dogs, even the bunny!

He's very friendly, just very timid. Do you have a quiet home where he can learn to relax and enjoy life? He's perfect for an older person who would like a quiet companion.

Stop by Oreo's Petfinder page to get to know him better. Or fill out our online application form to start the adoption process. (There's no obligation, of course.)

Arnold and Felix Need a Special Home

Arnold (below) tested positive for FeLV, the Feline Leukemia virus. He is healthy, happy and lovable, and shows no signs of the disease -- he simply tested positive. Arnold

Felix (not shown) is Arnold's best buddy. He is a very shy (semi-feral) cat who will likely become a big love bug once he feels secure in a loving environment. Felix has been vaccinated to protect him from catching the virus from Arnold.

These two best friends must vacate the heated shed they've been living in. They're affectionate and hungry for human contact and the love of a compassionate person. Arnold and Buddy should be kept away from other cats unless those cats have been vaccinated. Safe Haven will waive their adoption fees and even subsidize any FeLV-related medical care that either might need for two years. Call 985-3550 more info.

Meet Max

I'm the only survivor of my litter after our owners left us behind when they moved.Let's play!

I’m silky and bright-eyed, relaxed and talented, beautiful and happy to be alive. I’m 3½ years old but still play like a kitten.

If you let me share your life, we can play when you come home from work. You can chase me and I’ll hide! You can dangle the “feathers- on- a- stick” toy, and I’ll play until I’m dizzy and you're cracking up. You’ll laugh and forget your troubles.

Mom says I have to be an only kitty because I tested positive for FIV, but honest -- I'm perfectly healthy and will probably live a long life. Call 207-651-1803. I’m ready and waiting. (I have my stick toy packed.)

Blazer lost his dad

Eleven years of a happy relationship between a man and his cat ended when a move changed their lives. Unable to bring his cat with him into housing, Blazer, a sweet white and orange short hair, was handed over to Safe Haven during a tearful farewell. It’s so sad when people who love their animals have to surrender them because of the shortage of animal-friendly housing.

Blazer needs a new dad

Blazer sits in the window, looking out for long periods of time with a sad expression in his eyes, and this very well could be he is looking for his friend who said goodbye to him, or wondering when he will return. His foster mom won’t let him look sad for long. She brushes him, plays with him and gives him the neck massages he longs for. When occupied with a person to give him love, the sad look on Blazer’s face disappears and he is a happy cat again. It is amazing what love can do – for all of us. Companionship, kindness, and respect make life worth living for both animals and people.

We wish to find Blazer a wonderful, quiet, loving home where he will be treasured forever. If you are looking for a kittie that is very laid back, and if you have a quiet home without any other animals, please call 985-2231 and we will put you in touch with his foster mom so you can meet him.

Thanks for supporting Safe Haven’s NO KILL mission!
